what alan watts just helped me to realize.
So I’ve been reading Alan Watts and I just had the most wonderful realization about who we are and being eternal and survival. So, who we really are is actually eternal. Who we really are is not this body, or this temporary life. We’ve always existed, will always exist and can’t not exist. That’s who we really are, even now, we are this eternally flowing energy of life. So what is there to survive? How can an eternal being ever need to survive? Why would an eternal being ever need to even contemplate how to survive when an eternal being can never not exist, can never actually die or be destroyed. When you think about it in this way you suddenly realize that survival doesn’t exist, because in order to have survival you need to have something that CAN’T survive. But being an eternal being who is like the nothingness of space which contains everything, you can’t not survive. There’s just no question about it. You exist forever and ever and you can never lose yourself. You can lose this body you’re in, but this body is not you. You haven’t been this body since the beginning of time. You’ve been You since the beginning of time and even before that, but this body is just a temporary way for You to experience Yourself in a new way. Just for fun. So when you know that, how could you possibly be here to survive? How could it be that you need a job, money, bf/gf, approval, and whatever else to survive when you can never actually stop existing? You think you need these things to survive, to exist, to be who you are, but you just forgot that who you actually are is an eternal being who never ever needed any of this stuff to be You. Because you’re always You. You’re always eternal. And you’re always existing, right here, right now.
And then you think, well no but I still need this money and stuff to SURVIVE. No, you don’t. Because if you’re still trying to survive in this body it means you still think there’s a reason to hold onto this body like it’s actually who you are. It means you’re still afraid of the idea of “death”, of vanishing forever and something bad happening to you. But nothing bad can ever happen to you when you are all that is, when you’re already everything and all this stuff is just an illusion anyway. You think you need to do something to keep being or going or to keep things from changing. But even if you die, even if you leave this body, you are still you. You are still existing, vibrating, pulsing, being, experiencing and most likely you are free. There is no difference between you being you in this body or you being the eternal you that is sort of like energy just floating around and enjoying itself, the way you float on your back in the ocean and just look up at the clouds and enjoy yourself. The only reason it seems scary is because there’s a huge, gigantic misconception of who you are, what it means to exist and live, and what you think is going to happen to you when you die. Nothing happens. You don’t die. You keep being You, only now you realize just how eternal you are, just how undead you are. You realize that you are as alive as ever, but that doesn’t mean that you should now want to die. It’s just so you realize that no matter what you can’t lose yourself, there’s nothing to be afraid of out there because you’ll always be there anyway, and there is really here. So let go. Let go of holding on and just float on your back and look up at the clouds, or the stars, or the birds. That’s what you are, that’s what existence is. Doesn’t matter if you’re “dead” or “alive”. You’re still you. There’s no difference.
